The Original Robin the Plushie by VesteNotus The Original Robin the Plushie by VesteNotus
Finished the exact same time as Kid Flash ([link]).

This Robin was commissioned by :iconcaramelapple: *CaramelApple. As per her request, Robin's mask is removeable.
The cape, unlike the cape on the TTF Robin ([link]), does not come off. I actually kinda prefer it that way. The TTF Robin looks cool in a souped-up jumpsuit and no cape. The Original Robin does not. He just looks dumb without a cape. Evidently, the cape is critical.

I am pleased with this. That's all I'm gonna say.
I didn't go to crazy with the photos I put up... but let me just say this: somewhere on my computer are enough RobinX____ to kill a fangirl.
As was the case with Kid Flash, I was really tired during the photo shoot (they had a joint photoshoot, actually), so I got pretty punchy with the whole process.

Thank you CaramelApple for waiting so long! I will send these plushies out to you asap!

Cool! How long did it take?

well, at the time, it must have taken somewhere between 8 and 12 hours! But that's because this fella was entirely hand-sewn (and no glue guns either).
Nowadays, it would only take me 2, maybe 3 hours tops to remake this plushie.

So what's he made from? Felt?
Reply
:iconvestenotus:
VesteNotus Featured By Owner Aug 31, 2007
He's actually made from fleece and suede (suede for his skin). Felt is made from wool, but tends to fall apart at the seams more readily than fleece. Although fleece and suede are more expensive, their durability and cuddliness make it a wonderful improvement over felt

So how much did it cost all together?
Reply
:iconvestenotus:
VesteNotus Featured By Owner Sep 1, 2007
cost to make or how much did I sell it for?
The suede I get costs anywhere from $3-10 per yard while the fleece costs between $3-6 per yard.
In addition, the fabric transfer paper I used for the eyes cost about $10 per 3 sheets and the Velcro about $5 per pack. Making plushies requires a lot of up-front payment before I can actually start making any form of a profit (though measly) on what I sell.

Wow, that's a helluva long time. So why would it take you less time to remake it? Just wondering.

well, now I'm a lot faster at sewing stitches due to practice. but the real reason is because I use a sewing machine now

Er. I think it's good, the head just seems a bit larger than it should be (although he does rather have a big head XD. Can you say 'overinflated ego'?).

haha, yeah, it's just the style I wanted!
If you measure it out, the head is almost as large as the body!
I love those kinds of plushies the best...

I've only made one plushie with a proportional head-to-body ratio... it was "okay", but I think I'll keep makin' them big-headed plushies!

*giggles* yeah, he totally has the "overinflated ego/big-headednedd" going on!

yanno... I thought it would be a pain too... but for some reason, this one seemed really easy on me... I think that's because there weren't as many details on Robin as there were in *turin-the-forsaken's Robin design... now THAT was a lot of details! :-P

THis was my first time really experimenting with Robin. You're lucky now: any mistakes or such that I think I made with the previous Starfire, Robin, and Terra plushies can be corrected and modified in your plushies! ^__^;; it's like you're getting Plushie 2.0 (now with new features!)

I must concur. The removable mask is a fun addition. And you're right; without that crazy cape, he just doesn't really look like he'd be done much justice---or give out much of it, either. All the villains would be like, "Hey. Robin. You're a loser. You don't have a cape. You look stupid." And then Robin would be sad.

But Robin is happy. Because he has a cape, and the villains don't make fun of him. He just kicks a lot of flight-related ass.

Kind of makes me wonder where Batman is, though... <3 Rock the Batman.

But I digress. Awesome UFO Catcher, with a lot of detail that really brings the little dude to life. ^^

haha. without a cape, why bother?

haha... a batman plushie would be a sellout to his dark image... ...kinda like the Adam West live action Batman episodes... or all Batman movies up to but not including Batman Begins.

Yeah... I mean, Robin isn't robin without a cape. But who has a black cape with... a... yellow inside? o.o;

Yeah. Batman = Shmexshy. Adam West = Mayor of Quahog, RI in Family Guy = Dazed and confused = Was shmexshy 30 years ago.

And the original robin... Ah, Casey Casum. Oh dear. The once flight-themed hero now hosts the Sunday Top 40 radio show.

"Look, Batman! It's a letter from the Riddler. And he writes:

"Dear Batman and Robin,
"Well, I'm back out of prison, and I have enlisted the aid of one of your archrivals!
"I can't tell you who he is, but the answer lies in a song from 1974."

XD Silly Casey Casum. What have you done? Besides, his name reminds me of ketchup for some reason. o.o

Anyways. Enough ranting. ^^

Oh, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry I was kinda dodgy online yestereve. I was in the middle of so many things last night that I'm afraid I was a VERY poor conversationalist.
;-) I can change!

Also, I'm crossing my fingers that Terra arrives today.
