Bermuda Sand Beasts by VesteNotus Bermuda Sand Beasts by VesteNotus
For those of you who follow my personal life, I tend to go on a family vacation to Bermuda each year either in early June or mid August. This time we went mid August.

The beaches of Bermuda are gorgeous and the sand is clean and fine grained - perfect for playing in. Each year I make sand sculptures and try to post them online. I usually only post my favorite ones, as I tend to make about 4-6 sculptures per trip. These two are my highlights:

top: A dragon chained to the sand he lays on
bottom: A turtle crawling towards the surf

thats awsome! i love making castles and stuff at the beach. 1 tme i made this huge pyramid by pacing A LOT of sand sand balls into squares, then filling in the layer, then making another on top of it. then turned a of the litte holes and crevices around it into landforms. it was so sweet, i wish i had a camera...

Let's see... well the turtle took about 45 minutes to an hour to make, while the dragon took about and hour and a half... maybe 2 hours (tops)

You can't dally on sand sculptures, because the sand dries out quick and details start to blow away in the wind. ...wow, that sounded pretty poetic, now didn't it? haha

Thank you!

I prefer fine-grained, trash-free sand (which I oddly only find in Bermuda or on private beaches)...
I'd say the biggest secret is to use wet sand. Build high, then carve away. That's how I've been doing it.

Some people use a spray that's a mix of glue and water to help them make really elaborate designs. I'm not that cool. haha

the poor turtle hasn't gotten very far...
I wish I had a "zoom out" of the turtle picture. He was making his way to the ocean when I built him

haha, well, i dunno how I have the patience for this... especially when the waves crash in too far and destroy elements of my sculpture (which happened a lot with the dragon).

...i guess sheer boredom on the beach motivated me to make 'em. :-P

haha, I guess I shoulda done more swimming while I still could.

I like standing at the water's edge... not as keen on going in. But Bermuda's waters are a different story. I guess I do regret not playing in the water more. ^__^;;

Cool! As a matter of fact, I went on a vacation this summer, and I made a sand vaporeon (sounds hard, doesn't it?). I took some pictures of it, too. :)
